This is the third in a series of articles intended for your edification and learning about our founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution.  We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.  That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.  Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. -- Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world: .  That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. This is how the several states united to form a union: The United States of America!  None of the states wanted to, nor did they, give up their freedoms as sovereign states and citizens.  Instead, they hammered out the Constitution to protect their Statehood.  In the State Constitutions of every state, they declare their God-given rights!  The Constitution repeats the phrase: ‘Congress shall not’.  It is a document limiting the powers of the central government!  That is what the fifty-six signatories signed! They wanted to ensure that no ‘king’ could ever enslave them again. The situation this country finds itself in today is eerily similar to that in which our Founding Fathers were in under the despotic King George of England.  The Declaration and the Constitution are documents which have guided our once-great nation for three hundred-plus years.  They will again if we have the resolve and courage to stand up to the Socialists and Communists running our country today.  Every action by the current politicians is a violation of our Constitution: taking over banks and car companies – private industries, being dictated to by our elected president without even a whimper from Congress. On the federal side, it is the responsibility of the House and Senate to oversee the actions of the Executive branch.  If they won’t regulate the President, then it is the duty of the several states to resist federal control.This is where we find ourselves today: The Democrat-controlled House and Senate are in lock-step with the President.  They allow him to install his own people as Czars, and Congress does nothing; they allow him to take over businesses and banks, yet do nothing. It is when neither option is being pursued that the citizens of the states must take over.  How can we do that?  There are two ways:

·         Vote them out of office

·         Invoke states’ rights

 Voting them out of office:          The Nov. 3 elections would seem to indicate a shift in Americans’ thinking in the right direction: That which points to the Constitution for solutions.  If the 2010 election follows this trend, then we will come back from the brink of Socialism, Communism and Fascism.          If, however, we continue down the same path, we are in serious danger of losing our freedom and liberty.  What is our option then?  We indeed have an option which we will look at next time. Grover Pillsbury
